Posted by Graham on 13th February 2012

Saturday saw Garstang junior players in action at the Lancashire Butterfly Schools Individual Championships at Blackburn, and what a great day it was !! Firstly, Rebecca Hodgson, competing in the Under 19 Girls overcame Felicity Pickard and Amy Wells to claim her place in the National Championships, she was soon followed by Tom Ruston, winner in the Primary School Boys event, sadly both semi-finals in the event were contested by Garstang players which meant three had to miss out, Tom defeated Owen Bendall in the first semi, whilst in the other half of the draw Tommy Kennedy beat team-mate Ben Keay. The final saw a 3-0 win for Tom and his place booked alongside Rebecca at Doncaster on 21st April.

The afternoon saw more Garstang players join them as Ben Hynes won the Under 13 Boys defeating Nathan Beamer in the final, and then brother Tom was victorious in the Under 16 Boys defeating Jack Ellison in a tense final. So four Garstang players will be making the trip to Doncaster in April to take on the best in the country !!

In the Lancaster & Morecambe League Division 1 Garstang B kept on track for promotion with another maximum points win, this time 30-5 over University C, all three Garstang players undefeated on the night. Garstang C took on St Lukes D and emerged 29-11 winners, captain Andrew Williams and Stuart Southward winning 3 each, Kelly Southward won 2. The D team were in action twice, firstly they took on University D and emerged 23-14 winners, Thomas Gorst and Joseph Peat winning 3 each, captain Kevin Aughton added a further win to make up the points.

Later in the week they faced tougher opposition taking on top-side Trimpell Dragons, the difference in class showed as they took a battering 30-2, Joseph Peat winning 1 end and the remaining point coming from the doubles.

In the Premier Division Garstang A suffered a 20-15 defeat at the hands of Trimpell City, Luke McGrath recorded two wins, Rebecca Hodgson and Rebecca McGrath added one each.
